Last match for Curacao in Caribbean Cup 2014 ends in 4-1 loss against French Guiana

Report from the CONCACAF website:

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica – Gilles Fabien scored two goals and French Guiana (1-1-1, 4 points) remained alive in the Caribbean Cup finals with a 4-1 win over Curacao (0-0-3, 0 points) on Saturday at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.

French Guiana, needing to win by a significant margin, came out of the gate flying.

In the ninth minute, though, already-eliminated Curacao nearly grabbed the lead, when a Prince Rajcomar effort was saved off the line by a lunging Serge Lesperance at the left post.

As nerves settled, the French Guianese started to take measure of the match.

In the 18th minute, they went ahead 1-0 as Brian St. Clair netted his second goal of the final round, heading a right-sided cross off the left post and over the line.

Five minutes later, a rampaging run down the right by St. Clair resulted in an attempt from the top of the 18-yard box that forced goalkeeper Jarzinho Pieter into a diving save.

With an offense firing on all cylinders, French Guiana doubled its advantage in the 26th minute. Fabien got loose in the box, feigned to send Pieter to the ground and dribbled left, before slotting home from six-yards out.

Nourished by its ruthless approach, French Guiana made 3-0 in the 34th minute. Niki Adipi found the back of the net after holding off a defender in the box.

Fabien completed his brace and a Player of the Match performance in 64th minute, before being replaced by Sylvio Breleur.

Though there was no doubt about the final result, Curacao continued to attack and grabbed a consolation goal through Rihairo Meulens with six minutes left in normal time.
