Curacao U-17 qualifies for CONCACAF Under-17 Championship
The Curacao team ended fourth in the CFU Under-17 Championship played in Trinidad & Tobago last week. The Curacao U-17 thus secured a place in the 2017 CONCACAF Under-17 Championship which will be played in Panama from April 21-May 7, 2017. The other Caribbean qualifiers are champion Haiti, sub champion Cuba, nr 3 Jamaica an Suriname as the fifth team.
The Curacao team made it to the quarterfinals by beating Suriname 3-1 and a 0-0 draw against Guadeloupe after losing the first match against Cuba 2-1. For the quarter finals Curacao was matched to ruling champion Haiti, and lost 1-3. In the match for the 3rd place, Jamaica proved too strong for our boys: 0-3.
On September 26, CFU announced that Curacao had won the Fair Play Cup of the tournament. Curacao is proud of her team and is looking forward to participating in the CONCACAF Under-17 Championship. Besides the five Caribbean participants, the field include host nation Panama, Canada, Mexico, Suriname, the United States and three yet-to-be-determined Central American sides.
